Environmental Claims Validation
Independent, credible validation of marketing claims
With UL Environment’s Environmental Claims Validation (ECV), manufacturers can provide business customers and consumers with the confidence of knowing that product claims are backed by the trusted leader in standards development, testing and compliance for more than a century.
The process starts when manufacturers submit products to UL Environment for independent testing to validate environmental claims. Once the product claims have been validated, details are posted on UL Environment’s Database of Validated and Certified Products, an online tool that allows users to identify sustainable products by product category, company name, product name or type of claim. Manufacturers then may use the Environmental Claims Validated logo on marketing materials and packaging.
Manufacturers with validated claims have an edge in the marketplace over manufacturers whose claims are self-declared. The presence of the Environmental Claims Validated logo on materials and packaging is the strongest possible defense against charges of greenwashing.
A flexible program, Environmental Claims Validation (ECV) is available on a per-project basis or through an annual service agreement.
