Consumer information

UL Environment works with manufacturers to test and validate environmentally sustainable products. Currently, we offer two services with marks you can look for in marketing materials and on products. Here’s a description of both.

Environmental Claims Validation

With our Environmental Claims Validation (ECV) service, we test a manufacturer’s product and validate that the environmental claims they make in their marketing and packaging materials are factual. So when you see the logo, you’ll know that the product has been made or performs exactly as the manufacturer claims.

Sustainable Product Certification

With our Sustainable Product Certification (SPC) service, we test a manufacturer’s product to independent industry standards to determine that the product itself, and its manufacturing process and materials in the product, are in compliance. Products that have been certified will carry the Sustainable Product Certification Mark (see below).

Database of UL Environment Validated and Certified Products

Once a product has passed either an Environmental Claims Validation or Sustainable Product Certification review, it is included in our Database of Validated and Certified Products. This online tool is open to the public and lets you search by type of product, type of environmental claim or by manufacturer.
